Wake the World and Tell the People ! ~ Wilson Adams

24-Apr-2006

The Traders Point Spring Gospel meeting is upon us and all indications are that it will be a major spiritual feast.  Not many here have heard Brother Adams speak before, but those here and from other congregations speak in glowing terms of his preaching and the lessons he presents from the pulpit.  Wilson Adams comes to us from the Eastside church in Baytown, Texas.  The theme for this Spring's meeting is "Wake the World and Tell the People!"  The lesson titles and times are listed below.

Wilson was born in Bergen, Norway in 1957 while his parents were working to establish a faithful church of God's people in a foreign land.

They moved back to west Tennessee a year later where Wilson grew up in both Tennessee and later the Louisville, Kentucky area. He attended the University of Louisville and Florida College (1975-1978). Wilson's father (Connie Adams) is a gospel preacher and Julie's father (Weldon Warnock) is also a gospel preacher.

Wilson and Julie have four children: Sharon (Garner) of White House, TN, Dale of Bowling Green, KY, Crystal (age 17) and Luke (age 10). They are expecting their first grandchild, Callie Rose, in October.

Wilson began full time preaching in 1978 with the church in Roanoke, Virginia. He later moved to the Washington, D.C. area where he worked in suburban Maryland for twelve years. Then in 1994 he moved to Nashville to preach for the Riverside Drive congregation until the spring of 2001 when, with the blessing of the Riverside church, a new congregation (Skyview) was planted in the growing bedroom community of White House, TN.

Wilson's hobbies involve hanging out with the family at ballgames, hiking (each fall he travels out west with twelve men to hike for a week in the backcountry of our National Parks), and writing.      In 2004, Wilson won the S.A.P.A. (Southeastern Advertising Publishing Association) award for Personal Column in Orlando, Florida for a piece entitled, "Supper with the President."  In 2005, Wilson won the S.A.P.A. top two awards from the same organization in Atlanta for two more pieces of original writing entitled, "I Still Believe" and "The Team Mom."

The magazine, Southern Home Elegance, published in Nashville now carries his stories.  His weekly "Around the House - Simple Stories of Heart and Home" newspaper column of Americana-humor has been turned into a book Harwell/Lewis Publishing of Lakeland, Florida asked for the rights to publish a collections of his writings using the same "Around the House" title.

A regular columnist for religious publications since1980, Wilson broadened his writings when he began to author "Around the House"-Simple Stories of Heart and Home" which continues to appear in the White House, Tennessee weekly newspaper.  His column is widely read in that local community and is beginning to make inroads nationally.

Wilson also does motivational speaking.  He was one of the most requested speaker for the Nashville Foster Grandparent program while in Tennessee.  This is a government funded program which helps disadvantaged children in the inner city.  He also was the commencement speaker for the 2000 graduating class of his alma mater, Florida College, in Tampa.  In 2002, he was the Master of Ceremonies for the patriotic "Salute to America" event for a sold out crowd at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.

“It was very hard leaving family and friends” says Wilson, but Julie (Warnock) and I are excited about the work at Eastside and appreciate all the encouragement and support of everyone. We pray the Lord will bless our efforts as we work together."

Wilson and Julie have four children and one grandchild.
