Several in the congregation take on extra work as we wait for our new preacher to arrive 11-Feb-2001 As the Traders Point congregation looks forward to the arrival of new gospel preacher Tim Smelser, several members are taking over tasks performed by the previous preacher, J.R. Bronger. Many of the congregation's men are taking to the pulpit Sunday mornings and evenings to preach from God's word. Donnie Gaines, Jeff French, Kevin Colvin, Tim Huber, Mike Puckett, Kevin Stockton, Herb Smelser, Dawson Guyer, Jeff Pierce, Morgan Tharp, Robert Smelser, Bruce Cox, Keith Corder, Ben Lanius, Andrew Koonce, Stephen Jones, David Lytle, Al Easter, Nathan Rentschler, Gregg Shaw, Randy Allen, and Marcus Boone are among those preaching. Ben Lanius has taken over the congregation's weekly What Is Written program, broadcast every Sunday morning at 7:30 over WKLU, 101.9 FM. He has changed the program's format somewhat to be a little more extemporaneous, and sometimes brings guests onto the program. David Beltz ensures that The Parchment is published every week. He does it himself most of the time, but Ann Gaines occasionally takes the pressure off David by producing an issue. Also, several in the congregation, including Ron Ward, Kevin Colvin, Herb Smelser, and Jim Grey, have written original articles for The Parchment. You can read their writings in the In His Word section of this Web site. As J.R. was an elder as well as a preacher, elders Bob Choate and Herb Smelser have shouldered additional burden in shepherding the Traders Point flock. Herb and Bob also did a great deal of work in finding suitable candidates to be our next preacher, and in getting feedback from the congregation when candidates visited us. We are fortunate to have so many able and willing workers in our congregation. |
