Loving Our Brother Seth Niemeier “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Love is a simple word to say, yet the “agape” love talked about in John is not always easy to do. This is the way to tell if someone is a true follower of God’s word. When we as Christians evaluate our lives, one measuring tool we need to use is, “How much genuine concern do we have for one another?” 1 John 2:15-17 tells us that we are not to be a part of this world, yet we allow the activities of this world keep us from one another. It is inevitable that we will struggle with worldly problems, but we are part of a large family through Christ, and that family is willing and ready to help. This fact should be of great comfort to us. The comparison of Christ’s love to our love for each other is found in John 15:12-15. There Christ calls us His friends. What an honor for us to be considered friends with our Savior! The passage also tells us that we must be willing to lay down our life for our friends. That is friendship! That is love! Do you know everyone with whom you worship? Would you know if they were not here for Bible study? How can we love one another if we do not know one another? In order to love Christ we must love one another.
